Introducing Val Lawton – our newest instructor!
We are happy to welcome another new instructor to the Playful Pencil Art Studio. Val Lawton will be coming on board this fall to deliver our weekend art programming for ages 5 to 12yrs. We are very excited to have such a successful illustrator and art educator join our team. Welcome Val!
When Val Lawton was a kid, her favourite books always had great pictures – like Winnie The Pooh, or The Twits. It was the books with simple scratchy drawings that let her imagination run wild.
Val has illustrated over 30 children’s picture books, including for the Canadian Football League, and a series for the National Hockey League. She was a finalist for the 2015 High Plains Literary Awards, and the bronze-medal winner of a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award, in the 4 – 8 year old category for book called Where Does Your Dog Sleep?.
She is currently working on a couple of corporate projects, and children’s book. In addition to being a best-selling, award-winning children’s book illustrator, Val also works as an artist-educator with the Learning Through the Arts program, which means she helps kids learn by creating their own art.
Val recently relocated to Victoria from Calgary, and is loving the weather!
