Carol is offering the following two programs in our spring session. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to draw portraits, this is a great opportunity to learn how to break down the features of the face and build your skills to be successful.
BEGINNER PORTRAIT DRAWING PART 1 (Adults 16+)
Portraits don’t need to be intimidating! Carol will break it down for you; each week you’ll do a warm-up exercise followed by in-depth instruction on a single feature. Carol will review the structure and proportions of a face with you and will provide demos and instruction on how to describe the eyes, nose and mouth. At the end of several classes you’ll be much better prepared to tackle a whole portrait.
Please bring the following supplies: 2B, 4B and 6B pencils, kneaded eraser
BEGINNER PORTRAIT DRAWING PART 2 (Adults 16+)
For this follow-up session, you’ll put it all together! You’ll use the skills you learned in Part 1 to copy a small portrait in pencil. Carol will demonstrate and show you step-by-step how to place the features and get a good likeness. You’ll learn the underlying structures that give shape to the face and how to render them. You’ll find that drawing a portrait can be meditative and rewarding and not at all as difficult as you’d think.
Not everyone can take a two week break in the spring so we’re running a few weeks of fun art making camps. We will take on all kinds of drawing and doodling art projects plus we’ll get outdoors each day to visit the beach and the local parks.
ART & DRAWING FULL DAY CAMP
Join us for a week of drawing and art making. We’ll work on a variety of challenging and fun 2D and 3D projects.
Between groceries and errands, work and family commitments, trying to eat right, exercise, volunteer and spend time with our friends… our lives are… BUSY!
So how do we find time to connect with ourselves and recharge our batteries?
One really great way is by participating in some active and mindful recreation. So not binge-watching a favourite TV show again (although that activity does have its place). Active and mindful recreation means using our time to do something enjoyable, challenging, new and fun. This also means getting in the ‘zone’ where you forget about all else for a while which is exactly what happens when you work with patterns, shapes and colours. The nice thing about zen doodling and creating mandalas is that anyone can do it and everyone can benefit from it.
So grab a tea or coffee and join us on Tuesday mornings for an hour and a half of relaxing and battery recharging zen doodling.
