The Playful Pencil Art Studio was opened by Jodi Appleton in 2017 to provide a fun and welcoming space where students of all ages could learn and practice their drawing and illustration skills. Class sizes are kept small so that everyone can receive individual instruction and lesson plans are adjusted to meet the needs and interests of each individual group of students.
A message from Jodi:
After much consideration, I have decided that my little studio just isn’t going to survive this pandemic and so sadly I am closing my doors. I have had an amazing three years teaching art to all ages, meeting so many wonderful people within my community, and to getting to fulfill a dream I’ve always had. I’ve created a short slide show highlighting some of my favourite memories.
When the world sorts this out and we go back to being able to spend time together I hope to offer the occasional workshop or after school class through our local recreation centres. I’ll also be available for small groups, workshops or private lessons if people are interested. You can still subscribe to the newsletter which will be infrequent, but a way to stay up to date on whether or not the Playful Pencil can find another space to bring young artists together.
I encourage everyone to continue being creative and playful with their art. Try different mediums and stretch the rules, add in new ideas and make it your own. I’m going to miss everyone and the energy of the classes immensely.
Take care of yourselves through these strange times.
